Mike returned to the sport in the early 80s as an active participant during the marathon boom, while working in Food Technology. He joined Cambuslang Harriers in 1983 and in the mid-80s he took on a coaching role with the club, later became involved with the National Governing Body in various voluntary District and National endurance coaching roles. From 2004 he was employed by Scottish Athletics as Endurance Lead until retiring in 2014.
Still actively involved in coaching athletes from a number of different clubs Mike has been involved in coach and team management rolls with scottishathletics as well as with Team Scotland at the last four Commonwealth Games.
