Under 12 and Below

Whilst National Championships currently begin at Under 13 in some disciplines, and Under 15 in others, we would like to see younger athletes taking part in athletics. Some leagues start from Under 11, and scottishathletics’ SUPERteams events are open to athletes in the Under 12 age group. Most competitions for athletes aged 11 and younger will take place locally, and will be organised by clubs and schools.

Indoor SUPERteams – Winter 2023-24
The SUPERteams Host Handbook, which is free to all affiliated clubs, provides all of the instructions and you will need to plan and deliver your own SUPERteams event.

  • This resource will support you to host your own SUPERteams event in your local area, from intra-club competitions on a club night, to inter-club half-day or even full-day events.
  • You can deliver a SUPERteams event in any kind of indoor facility, including an indoor training track or a sports hall.
  • SUPERteams events are designed for athletes in the U12 age group (and aged 9+ on the day of the competition). However, you may choose to use the handbook to hold an event for athletes outside of this age range if you wish.
  • SUPERteams teams should be made up of four athletes. You can choose the make-up of teams at your event, but mixed-gender teams are encouraged for this age group.
  • Athletes should take part in a sprint, a throw and a jump (SUPERteams rules), with fun non-scoring relays offered at the end of the competition.
  • A scoring spreadsheet is provided along with the handbook to assist you with recording results and calculating athletes’ and teams’ final scores.
