Volunteering

As highlighted in our strategy, skilled and diverse people are crucial to the ongoing success of athletics in Scotland. The recruitment, retention and development of volunteers is a key part of our Club Development Framework and our Development Team work with member clubs to assist them in these areas.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to make your mark on a cause that you care about and learn new things along the way.

Athletics is undoubtably one of the most exciting and inclusive sports in the world. With events that’s suit all ages, abilities and skill sets.

scottishathletics along with its 150 Member clubs provide many opportunities for people to volunteer in athletics. From competition and events and club administration, to coaching and officiating there is an extensive range of roles you can be involved in.

If you would like to find out what volunteering opportunities are available at your local club(s) use our club finder page to identify clubs in your area.

Recruiting Volunteers:

Volunteers are a crucial part of every athletics and running club.

Their time, energy, and skills help create opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to participate, improve, and enjoy their sport. It’s important that we value their contributions, provide support, training, and guidance when needed, and continue to foster a positive volunteering experience for all.

Volunteer experience is defined by the interactions and experiences your volunteer has with your club throughout their entire journey—from first contact, through training and involvement, to becoming a happy and loyal member of your volunteer team.

The Volunteering Guidance and Volunteer Role Description resources have been developed to help clubs attract, support, and retain volunteers effectively. They provide practical advice on recruitment, role design, and creating a rewarding environment for volunteers.
