Commonwealth Games Legacy – Support for Athletics Clubs 2026

Commonwealth Games Legacy 2026

With the Commonwealth Games returning to Scotland in 2026 athletics clubs in Scotland once again has an unprecedented opportunity to benefit.

It is important as a sport we create a lasting legacy.  Together as a sport we can build a legacy which engages people of all ages to promote our sport to build stronger clubs, recruit volunteers, and to improve participation levels.

Scottish Athletics have produced the following resources to support clubs plan and prepare for the legacy:

  • Commonwealth Games Legacy – Support for athletics clubs (see above)
  • National Club Support Guide (see above)
  • Volunteer Guidance and Volunteer Role Descriptions https://www.scottishathletics.org.uk/clubs/volunteering/ (scroll to foot of page for documents)
  • A variety of editable promotional posters (to follow in coming weeks)

Much of the resource will not just support clubs for the short term however will aim to support clubs with strengthening clubs for many years to come.

We are very grateful for the considerable amount of excellent club development work and many hours of dedicated work that currently exists to grow and develop our sport.  Hopefully this information helps complement the club development that already exists.

If you would like to discuss any of the information contained within these documents in further detail please contact the Scottish Athletics Development Team – development@scottishathletics.org.uk
