Athletics Coach – Additional Elective Modules

The Athletics Coach additional elective modules are available to any coach who is already a qualified and licensed Athletics Coach. The additional elective modules provide coaches with the option to undertake an additional elective(s) to add to their coach qualification.

All elective modules include additional technical content, understanding physical preparation of the athlete considerations, and the requirement to complete a technical Knowledge Test.

The options for the additional electives which are currently available only to coaches who have completed the Athletics Coach* course are:

Speed

  • Technical components for: Starts and acceleration, Maximum Velocity running,Bend running, Hurdles, Relays, Wheelchair racing

Endurance

  • Technical components for: Steeplechase, Middle / Long distance running, Race Walking, Wheelchair Racing

Jumps

  • Technical components for: Long jump, High jump, Triple jump, Pole vault

Throws

  • Technical components for: Shot, Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Seated throws

*Please note, completion of the Athletics Coach qualification does licence and insure coaches to deliver sessions including:

  • Running for Speed
  • Running over Obstacles
  • Running for Endurance
  • Jumping for Distance (Long Jump)
  • Jumping for Height (High Jump)
  • Push Throw (Shot Put)
  • Pull Throw (Javelin)

An Additional Elective Module will provide further learning to the content covered during the Athletics Coach course as well as additional competence to deliver events such as Pole Vault, Steeplechase, and Hammer Throw.

The cost of the additional elective modules is £75 with Sport Scotland subsidy  available for any coach eligible
