Following the announcement published during summer 2023 (see link here) in relation to each of the Home Country Athletics Federations (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) assuming responsibility for the licensing of all leaders and coaches from UK Athletics, Scottish Athletics became the licensing authority for any licensed* leaders and coaches with a permanent residence in Scotland from 1 November 2023.
This will allow us to service, support, and provide education and development opportunities to all our leaders and coaches directly. The transition and development of the licensing scheme will ensure that, we can continue to provide essential services and keep people safe across our sport.
Leader and Coach Licence Terms and Conditions Oct 2023
If you are a current licensed* leader or coach, the process for accepting our (T&Cs) is straight forward.
All you have to do is follow the instructions below:
If you are a licensed coach and a technical official you will need to accept T&Cs for each role. If you are not a licensed technical official, you do not need accept these T & C’s.
Your licence expiry date is listed on your licence card. Please note that you are not insured to deliver as a leader or coach without an in date licence.

You will be asked to sign up to the new Terms and Conditions as you complete this process.
If you are no longer active and have no plans to return to leading / coaching, please email: coaching@scottishathletics.org.uk and we will process your request. You will be ‘retired’ from your role, your licence status will be updated on the system and you will be asked to post your licence card back to us.
Important note: If you change your mind you, have 6 years in which to reactivate your licence by completing the required licensing steps. If your licence is not renewed for more than 6 years, you would need to restart the qualification pathway or apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.
