About the Role

We are seeking a minimum of three individuals to join our newly established Coaching Focus Group.

The Group is part of the agreed sub-structure of the Scottish Athletics Ltd Board and is one of five focus groups supporting the delivery of the organisations strategy, Building a Culture of Success (2023-2027).

The Coaching Focus Group will help inform, advise and support the delivery and review of the coaching elements in both the ‘Clubs & Pathways’ and ‘Performance Environments’ pillars of the strategy.

The Coaching Focus Group is responsible for:

  • Supporting and influencing the delivery of the coaching elements in both the ‘Clubs & Pathways’ and ‘Performance Environments’ pillars of Building a Culture of Success (2023-2027);
  • Providing advice and feedback to the Board and staff to support the delivery of the annual coaching sub-strategy and overall strategic initiatives;
  • Supporting the review of progress against the delivery of the strategy; and
  • Supporting engagement with different core groups within athletics in Scotland.

The Coaching Focus Group will be chaired by a member of the Scottish Athletics Ltd Board and is expected to meet up to four times per year.

Meetings will mainly be held online, however, in agreement with the group face-to-face meetings may be held on occasion.

The role of the individuals appointed onto the Focus Group will be to attend and provide constructive contributions to the group meetings and the delivery of the responsibilities set out above.

Travel and subsistence will be reimbursed in accordance with the scottishathletics policy.

About You

Candidate Specification

 

ESSENTIAL

 

DESIRABLE
·       Knowledge of, and keen interest in, athletics in Scotland and the U.K. ·       Minimum of a Coaching Assistant (or equivalent) licence.
·       Knowledge of club and coaching structures within sport in Scotland and passion for the development of coaches and coaching. ·       Knowledge of the wider Scottish sporting landscape – the opportunities and challenges faced – and of governing body structures.
·       Understanding of the pathway for athletes and coaches in athletics in Scotland. ·       Experience of working successfully in voluntary positions within sport and/or business.
·       Knowledge of and affinity with ethical issues within society including equality, diversity and inclusion. ·       Experience of influencing, developing and reviewing strategic and operational plans.
·       Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
·       Ability to engage constructively with and support staff and volunteers at all levels.
·       Innovative and forward-thinking with a positive attitude.
·       Respectful, trustworthy, approachable, enthusiastic and reliable.
·       Proven experience of working successfully as part of a team.

Application Process

In line with our governance requirements, all appointments will be made in accordance with the ‘Safe Recruitment and Management of Volunteers’ guidance.

All members of the group will be required to sign a code of conduct, confidentiality agreement and conflict of interest declaration.

Appointments to the Coaching Focus Group will be made for an initial period of two years.
