Strong winds at Strathclyde Park made conditions tough at our Scottish 10-Mile Champs.
But it didn’t prevent strong performances with no fewer than nine athletes landing shares in our Road Race Grand Prix.
The Half Marathon Champs in Inverness had already set the ball rolling on the series ahead of the 10-Miles within the Tom Scott Road Race event hosted as always by Law and District AAC.
And superb performances in the men’s division saw the top five athletes all inside the A standard (50:00) for Grand Prix shares.
Exciting finishes as Scott and Annabel win titles at 10-Mile Champs
Our medallists were Scott Stirling (Falkirk Victoria Harriers) 48:30; Kevin Campbell (Cambuslang Harriers) 48:37 and Callum Hawkins (Kilbarchan AAC) 48:42. Also landing A shares were Ryan Thomson (Cambuslang Harriers) 48:50 and Lewis Hannigan (Kilbarchan AAC) 49:19.
The good runs didn’t end there: three more men were inside the B standard for the 10-Mile Champs (51:00). Well done to the trio of Sean Chalmers (Aberdeen AAC) 50:01; Lewis Rodgers (Fife AC) 50:10; Daniel Bradford (Shettleston Harriers) 50:57.
Annabel Simpson won this title for the third time in four years and the Fife AC athlete’s time of 59:19 took her just inside the Women’s A standard for the 10-Mile Champs (56:20)
Well done to all these athletes and all who raced the Scottish 10-Mile Champs.
The next event in the Road Race GP is the Scottish Marathon Champs within the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 27 April.
