Stornoway RAC on Facebook

Clubs all over Scotland make a big commitment to competition when taking part in our National Championship events.

And, sometimes, that commitment extends across the water, too, with our island clubs often attending events in track and field and cross country.

Stornoway RAC were highly visible in their red vests at the Emirates Arena for the 4J Studios National Indoor Senior and U17 Champs with seven athletes competing.

It was a three-day trip for the club by ferry and minibus from Ullapool and they are planning another journey for the Lindsays National XC on Saturday 22 February.

We spoke to coach Allan Maciver and his son, athlete Scott, about the growth of the club and how they  have been operating a waiting list with a need for more qualified coaches in Stornoway.

Corstorphine AAC club website

Corstorphine AAC are delighted to have been awarded £17,000 of The National Lottery cash over the next four years thanks to Sportscotland ‘s Direct Club Investment funding programme.

In partnership with scottishathletics and sportscotland, CAAC will use the funding to employ a ‘Club Together Officer’ who will help improve our policies and procedures. This will help build sustainability in coaches, membership and partnerships. The role will also support underrepresented groups being integrated into our coaching sessions.

Club chair David Arnott said: ‘In recent years the club has grown significantly as has the success we have achieved in all areas of athletics.

‘Our youth and female athlete numbers have grown considerably and we are now achieving regular success at National and District level in addition to the satisfaction of many personal goals.

‘In order to continue that progression we are delighted to have secured significant funding from sportscotland towards the cost of the club’s first Club Together Officer.

‘Our Club Together Officer will be employed for 15 hours per week and will allow the club to fulfil a number of important objectives including reviewing our legal status and governance procedures, increasing coach, volunteer and athlete numbers, creating a clear coaching pathway, enhancing links with local schools/sports hubs/councils, and expanding athletics participation throughout Edinburgh.’
