Para focus: Perth Strathtay Harriers video and Corstorphine Frame Runners

Saturday 27th January 2024

We’re pleased to see this video showcasing the worth of Perth Strathtay Harriers – emphasising strongly the fact that it is a fully-inclusive club, with an active Para sports component.

The club is part of the Sport for Change Network in Perth, organised by Live Active Sport to address inequalities and improve mental wellbeing.

It uses physical activity and sport intentionally to bring about positive benefits for individuals and communities – see https://www.liveactive.co.uk/sport-for-change for more.

Organisations taking part learn about the Sport for Change Movement, and the inclusion methods promoted by sportscotland’s Changing Lives programme; they can receive mental health awareness training; they sign up to the SAMH Mental Health Charter; and share positive messages about the potential for sport to change lives, through the promotion of case studies.

Corstorphine Frame Runners celebrate growth in first year (club website story)

From tentative steps into the unknown, Corstorphine AAC’s Frame Running group has gathered pace to enjoy a surge in members, the arrival of additional specialist equipment, and awards for its coaches as it celebrates its first anniversary.

The group launched on January 20 last year with one-hour sessions for two athletes as part of CAAC’s Active Schools training on Friday afternoons at the Royal High School.

It now accommodates six physically disabled and impaired competitors between the ages of 12 and 60 on the track at Saughton every week, with the group having been gifted a new frame from a leading charity and receiving grants to purchase parts to adapt the equipment for use by fellow members.

The sterling efforts of Graeme Reid and Francesca Snitjer were rewarded when the pair won Lothian Disability Sport’s coach of the year award.

Recalling the group’s launch 12 months ago, Graeme says: ‘There was no regular Frame Running session in the capital and the athletes were travleling to East and West Lothian, and even as far afield as Perth, to get a coached session.

‘We buitl the infrastructure up and have added a new coach to the team and on the back of that we have gradually been able to build the squad of athletes. While it is nice to have competitve athletes in the group, it is also really important we are offering sessions to anyone who may benefit.

‘The support from the whole Frame Running community in Scotland has been incredible’
