Setting out aims: YPF Cohort Three make strong start to new programme

The 2026 EAP Glasgow Indoor International at the Emirates Arena was a celebration of world-class indoor athletics to remember.
It was also a powerful example of how the ATS Young People’s Forum is creating meaningful opportunities for young people across our sport.
The Forum played a big part in the event, providing fun concourse activities for spectators, conducting surveys, assisting with VIPs, and some even helping me to capture social media content throughout the competition.
Among those gaining invaluable experience on the night was YPF member Tammy Oshinowo, who contributed to social media coverage for scottishathletics platforms, interviewing a range of athletes from emerging international competitors to Olympians.
Tammy, 16, a sprinter from Aberdeen and a YPF member for over two years, has been building her media experience steadily across the past year – conducting interviews at events ranging from Scottish Schools competitions to National Championships and Open events.
At EAP Glasgow, we’re pleased to confirm her progression reached a new level!
In her LinkedIn post reflecting on the event, she shared that the opportunity to create content for us enabled her to progress to interview high-profile athletes such as Guy Learmonth and Laviai Nielsen.
Tammy explained that the experience not only strengthened her confidence and communication skills but also enhanced her ability to engage professionally within elite sporting environments.

Tammy also highlighted how the experience connected with her wider interests beyond athletics.
As an aspiring law student, she recognised the importance of professionalism, ethical responsibility, consent, and accurate representation when working in sport and media. She demonstrated a maturity and awareness that goes beyond simply holding a microphone at the side of the track.
‘I have been a member of the YPF for just over two years and, alongside this, I’m a sprinter from Aberdeen AAC. Recently, I had the opportunity to interview athletes at the EAP Indoor International Glasgow, where I gained valuable experience.
‘This opportunity allowed me to further develop my communication skills, build my confidence, and strengthen my ability to engage with athletes in a professional environment. It has helped me grow both personally and professionally, speaking with individuals who are at the very top of our sport.’
Her journey reflects exactly what the YPF is geared to do – create genuine, practical opportunities that allow young people to build transferable skills while contributing meaningfully to the wider sport.
The Forum’s involvement at events like EAP Glasgow is about more than volunteering; it’s about responsibility, trust, and development.
Providing opportunities for young people to step into live event environments – to prepare surveys, conduct activities for spectators, capture content, and represent the forum professionally – helps to bridge the gap between participation and leadership.
For many young people, particularly those interested in careers in media and communications, these real-world experiences are invaluable.
They provide insight into the standards, preparation, and professionalism required at the elite level of the sports industry.
As Digital Content Creator and Marketing Officer for the Young People’s Forum, it has been incredibly rewarding to support Tammy, and other YPF members, in developing their digital and media skills.
Watching the growth in confidence from Tammy’s early interviews to now, where she is engaging with internationally recognised athletes, is fantastic to see.
The success of the YPF at EAP Glasgow demonstrates what can happen when young people are supported and given real opportunities to contribute to the sport.
Tammy’s experience is just one example of how the YPF is helping shape not only future athletes, but future leaders, communicators, and professionals within the sport.
