Hamish Hickey (Central) and Isla Paterson (Gala) both ran dominant races to win for the first time the Scottish Trail Championships at the Crieff 10K on Sunday.
Conditions were testing in the heat, a mix of sections on the open trail and others shaded by trees, climbing Laggan Hill and Sir David Baird’s Monument.
Both Hamish and Isla (39.07) benefited from their flat speed and experience of hill races on this hilly course.
Conditions were good underfoot making the going fast. In the women’s race Grace Whelan (Central) had a strong run to finish 2 in 39.24 leading Central’s women to team gold.
Catriona MacDonald (Bellahouston) battled with Katie Rouke to finish third, just breaking 40 minutes in 39.57.

In the men’s race Hamish was the clear winner, 15 seconds outside the course record in the scorching conditions.
Lothian’s Moray Pryde was second in 33.56 and Fred Davies (Shettleston Harriers) was a further 12 seconds behind in third.
Dundee Road runners took the team prize, with close packing in fourth, eighth and ninth positions
Shettleston and Central equalled on points but Shettleston’s last finisher was home first – giving Shettleston the silver medals.

In the junior 5k race Lachlan Thomas (Ross County) made the long trip south worthwhile storming home in first place (U17) in 16.34, after climbing Laggan Hill.
The most exciting finish of the day was in the sprint finish between Lachlan’s twin brother Kaeden and Stewarty’s Ben Hodson – with Ben slightly ahead as they crossed the line.
Nancy Corrie (Harmeny) ran a strong race to finish first U17 with Ava Richardson (Gala) in second.
In the U15 race there was only 16 seconds separating the first three boys with Connor Campbell (Garscube) finishing first and Thea Harris (Moorfoot) winning the girls race.
Thanks to the team at Starthearn Harriers for delivering a great event, well organised and an excellent route.
Jon Williams announced his retirement as race organiser and everyone wishes Jon the best of luck in his retirement. Thanks, also, to Phil Mestecky for organising the junior 5k event.
