Youngsters prepare for SUPERteams

Friday 3rd February 2017

IT’s almost time for one of our most popular events of the Indoor Season – and the one that always just about raises the roof the Emirates Arena!

SUPERteams is a scottishathletics event for our youngest athletes and it is coming up on Sunday with around 110 teams from across the length and breadth of Scotland set to gather in Glasgow for what is always an occasion full of enhtusiasm.

And now we have the timetable and pools on the Events page in order to help team managers, parents and helpers in the countdown to Sunday.

Teams of four boys or four girls compete in four events during the course of the day. Those events are a 60m sprint, shot putt throw, long jump and then a 4 x 200m relay.

The whole idea of the SUPERteams is as a development event for our very youngest athletes – having fun while learning events and competing as teams within a club framework.

The timetable on Sunday runs from 10am to 3.40pm (one of the reasons for that is there are regulations about giving athletes of this young age time to recover between events). We ask Team Managers to note that registration is open from 8.30am.

Thanks to all involved in helping with this event and good luck to the teams set to be  involved

*In terms of our media channels, it may be worth us explaining a ‘policy’ around the SUPERteams.

We believe the right place for coverage of this event is clubs websites and club social media rather than across our National Governing Body channels. We don’t do SUPERteams pictures or video.

Given it is a development event, while we understand the competitive nature of it on the day, we don’t feel it is necessary or appropriate for us to significantly push the winners.
