scottishathletics Middle Distance Project

scottishathletics are keen to flag up to athletes, coaches and parents that we are continuing our Middle Distance Project – which aspires to help accelerate the development of our athletes over 800m, 1500m and 3000m.

We are planning to send a minibus of athletes/coaches down to the British Miler Club Gold Standard Races (North) at Stretford in Manchester over the 2015 summer season in order to foster their progression and development by assisting them to participate in challenging competition environments.

The programme is primarily aimed at senior school pupils, further education students and late developing seniors – as well as their coaches.

We are putting the information out now to assist coaches with the planning process, but we are looking for expressions of interest for the project in the near future.

So, in order to assist with effective planning, would interested athletes/coaches please contact Mark Pollard (mark.pollard@scottishathletics.org.uk) by the end of March.

The dates for the ‘Tuesday Night Trafford’ Meetings in 2015 are:

Tue 5 May

Tue 19 May

Tue 9 June

Tue 30 June

Tue 21 July

Tue 11 August

Tue 25 August

The provisional standards for being involved in the project are:

Male 800m: sub 1:56 runners only (of which there were 44 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Male 1500m: sub 4:00 runners only (of which there were 47 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Male 3000m: sub 8:45 runners only (of which there were 31 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Female 800m: sub 2:12 runners only (of which there were 18 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Female 1500m: sub 4:30 runners only (of which there were 19 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Female 3000m: sub 10:00 runners only (of which there were 13 athletes in Scotland 2014)

Depending on the level of uptake, coaches and athletes may need to prioritise the dates they would like to compete on – to ensure as many athletes as possible are given the opportunity to participate.

Athletes (and coaches of these athletes) who are interested should contact mark.pollard@scottishathletics.org.uk for more information.
