Renfrew information

This weekend’s big cross country meeting in Renfrew will have a Mediterranean connection.

Two young athletes are making the lengthy journey from Malta to Scotland later this week to savour the Scottish ‘XC experience’ on Saturday.

Via our social media channels, coach Luca Falzon was highly impressed with footage of our Lindsays Cross Country Season events at Cumbernauld and Lanark earlier this winter and made inquiries with us about bringing youngsters to race Renfrew.

‘We have been looking for a long distance competition abroad for young athletes for a long time and this is a great opportunity,’ said Luca, from the Pembroke Athleta Athletics and Triathlon club on the island. of Malta.

‘This time round we will only have two athletes travelling, however we hope to have bigger contingents in the years to come.

‘Temperature here in Malta is down to 10 degrees at the moment. But the young athletes are aware of the weather there in Scotland, and will have everything they need to stay warm and be ready for the race. They can’t wait.’

We’re delighted to have around 700 athletes entered for the British Cross Challenge event which features our Inter-District XC medals as well as Celtic Nations XC (in certain age groups).

The course map for King George V Playing Fields in Renfrew is now online and all the other key information for Saturday.
