A leading member of the scottishathletics staff team is to take part in The Women’s Sport Leadership Academy later this year.

Executive Officer/Equalities Officer Fran Snitjer will attend the week-long programme, which is held at the University of Chichester in September.

The Academy aims to develop future leaders, with the aim of increasing the number of female leaders in sport.

Since it was founded in 2014, more than 380 women based in over 60 countries, spanning many different sports, have become graduates of the Academy.

scottishathletics has been represented at this over recent years with both Dawn Allan and Lindsay McMahon having attended. Sue Gyford and Shona Malcolm attended a course organised by World Athletics along similar lines.

‘It is a fantastic opportunity to not only develop my own self-confidence and leadership skills, but also to meet, engage with, learn from and support other women from a variety of backgrounds, who share common goals but different aspirations,’ said Fran.

‘What attracts me most to the WSLA Programme is the engagement with a diverse cohort, and the learning that will come with that.

‘Improving intercultural understanding, having conversations, and sharing learning around some of the common and different challenges that we all face within our leadership roles and working in different environments.

‘We can learn so much from other people and it would be an invaluable experience to share best practice.’
