Club delegates relish ‘Back to Basics’ learning at our annual Conference

‘We are on the right track if we work #SALtogether’ – Liz McColgan

Our 2024 National Club Conference played host to 85 delegates last weekend to focus on the theme ‘Back to Basics’.

The atmosphere throughout the day was one of learning and positivity with a number of strong contributions from guest presenters and the club representatives themselves.

Conference is our flagship development event across the year and we were delighted with the response.

Four clubs helped by sharing best practice about how to protect and nurture the principles which are fundamental to athletics in Scotland.

We were treated to excellent presentations by Giffnock North AC, Perth Road Runners, North Ayrshire AC and Orkney AC.

Eilidh Doyle was our keynote speaker as she looked at her career from a coaching perspective and how the basics at club level form a platform and pathway for athletes.

Later in the day there was further insight as David Ovens chaired our absorbing Q and A with Liz McColgan.

Thanks also to Roon the Toon for sponsorship of the event as well as Tunnocks and Phizz.

We were also supported on the day by two long-standing partners: Club Development Scotland and Athletics Trust Scotland as they hosted round-table sessions.

‘We were delighted once again to deliver the National Club Conference,’ said David Fallon, our Head of Development.

‘This is one of our key learning moments of the year and the buy-in from the clubs in terms of both presentations and delegates attending is very much appreciated.

‘Eilidh Doyle and Liz McColgan were great to listen to and learn from and I want to thank all our partners and the clubs who shared good practice – Orkney, Giffnock North, Perth Road Runners and North Ayrshire AC.

‘And of course events like this don’t happen without a big effort from all the staff team at scottishathletics. So ‘thank you‘ from me to the Development team, the Community Impact team and a number of other staff members.’
