Brodie lands new Scottish 400m Record

New Scottish U20 Men’s 400m champion Dylan McCulloch wants to keep trying to emulate Brodie Young.

Brodie broke the Scottish Record for the distance indoors over the weekend with a stunning 45.46 performance.

Pitreavie AAC athlete Dylan followed that up with his own PB and Championship Best Performance at the Emirates to win gold in 47.85 (his previous indoor PB had been 48.73).

‘‘I ran a 200m PB a couple of weeks ago so my coach (Francis Smith) felt sure I could improve the 400m and in fact he told me what I could run today – and I did!’ grinned Dylan.

‘I am so happy with 47.85 and a Championship Best. I know I’ve more progress to make but hopefully that puts me up towards GB and NI selections later in the year.

‘The goal was to come out hard on the first lap and I did that. I felt comfortable out there running that pace.

‘I check out Brodie Young’s performances all the time and watch them online. I want to be like him, Every time he makes progress then I want to make progress myself.

‘Brodie is someone I look at and think – that’s something to aim for when I am older.’

Dylan is one of our current Athletics Trust Scotland National Academy athletes.
