Scotland Men at Snowdon in 2023

Team silver as Holly wins in Wales

Scotland teams will once again compete in the hills next month at the 49th Snowdon International Race.

The race is on Sunday 20 July and athletes will compete over 15.35k with 994m of ascent and descent.

And we are pleased today to name the eight runners who will represent Scotland in Wales

Women:

Naomi Lang (Carnethy); Catriona MacDonald (Bellahouston); Ella Peters (Westerlands); Jill Stephen (Deeside)

Men:

Jacob Adkin (Moorfoot); Ewan Brown (Corstorphine); Kieran Cooper (Carnethy); Robin Downie (Lochaber)

Congratulations to all those selected and to their families, coaches and clubs. It will be a first Scotland vest appearance for Ella and Robin.

Interestingly, the steepest section of the race is on the road leading up to the mountain path.

Last year’s race was significantly shortened due to gales and heavy rainfall so the team will be hoping to race to the summit again this year.

The trail gets busier each year with tourists trekking up to the summit and means full concentration is required on the descent.

Cornalees also served as Round four (of eight) in the 2024 Junior Hill League.

At the halfway stage, there’s still everything to play for but our current leaders are Angus Wright and Rachel Giffen in the U20s, Eliza Koenig of Fife and Alastair Maclean in the U17s and Anna Meek and Seb Darlow in the U15s.

The league now moves on to the fifth round next Saturday in Melrose with the Eildon Three Hill Race and Junior Races.
