Spikes interview with Emma Canning
Scottish Combined Events athlete Emma Canning has been talking about her life in France – and her athletics.
The Scotland and GB international moved to Paris a couple of years ago and is the subject of a special blog post feature in Spikes – the World Athletics magazine content platform.
‘As I walked around the corner and saw the Eiffel Tower sparkling, I stopped and asked myself, not for the first time: how on earth did I manage to get here?,’ writes Emma.
‘How could a wee 23-year-old Scottish heptathlete find herself in one of the most famous cities in the world, training at the prestigious INSEP — the Institut National du Sport, de l’Expertise et de la Performance?.’
Emma explains the full story in her own words and it is an inspirational one – and well worth a read for any young athletes thinking about a move outside of Scotland. Full story here.

Zoey Clark happy to return to Poland – Press and Journal story
Zoey Clark believes the benefits of competing in next month’s world relays in Chorzow will outweigh any risks in travelling to the Polish city.
The Aberdeen AAC 400m specialist, who aims to compete in this summer’s Olympics, will be making her second trip to Poland this year, having been a key member of the Great Britain 4x400m relay squad who won silver medals at the European indoor championships in Torun at the beginning of March.
A Covid outbreak among competitors in Torun led to Clark and the rest of the British team having to self-isolate for 10 days on their return home.
But Zoey is still keen to represent GB and NI at the World Relays at the start of May – back in Poland.
‘If it was closer to the Olympic trials (at end of June) then I would be a lot more concerned,’ she told the Press and Journal.
‘But at this moment I think it is a risk worth taking because, potentially. This might be the only opportunity for us to prepare as a relay team for Tokyo.’
