Junior Hill Champs report and Ross Gollan win

Ben Lomond is the magnificent setting for key senior and junior hill races this Saturday (May 12).

Seniors:

The senior race doubles as the scottishathletics West District Hill Running Championships.

Any athlete who has pre-entered and is a member of a West of Scotland club and also a member of scottishathletics will be eligible for a Championship medal, which are awarded in the following categories (male and female): Senior; U23; V40; V50; as well as male and female teams.

The classic Ben Lomond course is a challenging 12.6km with 960 metres of climb, taking runners to the summit and back from Rowardennan.

Race start is 1pm.

Scotland athletes at the WMRA International Youth Cup a couple of  years ago

Juniors:

The junior races have added value for certain athletes, as the U17/U20 event is the primary trial race for Scotland selection for the WMRA International Youth Cup, which takes place in northern Italy on 16 June.

The Youth Cup is for 16 and 17-year-olds (born in 2001 or 2002) with Scotland set to send male and female teams of up to three athletes.

Entries for all the junior races are taken on the day. Registration opens at 10.30am in the NE corner of the main car park at Rowardennan, with the first race at 11.15am.  Location Map

The full timetable is:

11.15am:  FUN RUN For all ages, under 8s must be accompanied.  1.7km, 80m climb.

11.30am: U15 (born 2004 or 2005). 2.6km, 160m climb.

12 noon: U17 (born 2002 or 2003) and U20 (born 1999-2001). 4.3km, 240m climb.

This event also forms part of the 2018 Junior Hill Running League, with points to be scored in the U15, U17 and U20 categories.
