Six junior athletes will head to Italy later this week to represent Scotland in hill and mountain running at the International Youth Cup.
Saturday will see this annual international event for 16 and 17-year-olds and the Scotland teams were picked on the back of the main trial race in Fife in May, which also formed the scottishathletics Junior Championships.
Five clubs will be represented in the teams in action in Puglia in Italy with three boys and three girls selected in what is always a great experience for these young athletes.
The boys race 5.3K in distance with 240m climb while for the girls the distance is 3.85K with 180m of climb.
In the Scotland boys team, Fife AC’s George Rees gains selection for the second year in succession, and is joined by club-mate Robert Sparks as well as Garscube Harriers athlete Cody Stevenson.
Among the girls, Grace Whelan of Moray Road Runners also earns selection for a second time, with Lynn McKenna (Giffnock North) and Zoe Nicholson (Pitreavie) completing the team.
Good luck to the Scotland teams and the officials travelling with them to Italy for the International Youth Cup from all at scottishathletics.
With thanks to Malcolm Patterson

The third of our summer Throws Grand Prix Series takes place in Livingston on Saturday (24 June).
There was strong support for the last event in Inverness last month but unfortunately poor weather that weekend didn’t make it easy for athletes or Officials.
Now we are looking forward to the third of four events in the GP Series and at Craigswood, Livingston, and a number of athletes and coaches (and Officials) are making plans to compete and attend.
Start-lists and key information is online on our Events page.
*The fourth and final date at Craigswood Stadium, Livingston, is Saturday 9 September.
