We can confirm that tomorrow’s Lindsays National XC Relays in Cumbernauld (Saturday 24 October) have been cancelled on safety grounds.
The decision was made at 1pm today by scottishathletics staff and event officials, following a review of the latest forecast and conditions at the venue.
Strong winds are expected throughout tomorrow, with forecast gusts of over 40mph.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for wind in the area from 12pm on Saturday 24 October. After assessing the forecast and the site, we agreed that we could not stage the event safely.
Our concerns include:
The safety of everyone involved in our events is our first priority.
This was not an easy decision, and we know how disappointing it will be for the athletes, coaches, clubs, Officials and volunteers who have put so much into preparing for the day.
We would rather be open about our reasons and make the call as soon as practical than ask people to travel and compete in conditions we are not comfortable with.
We are looking at options for the event and will share an update as soon as we have more information. Please check the website and social media channels for updates.
