Greg wins 12th gold and Krishawn fastest 100m winner for 25 years

Athletics statistician Arnold Black, Convener of our Records Committee, is the source of all knowledge when it comes to putting Scottish performances into historical context.

Following on from the 4J Scottish Senior Champs in Aberdeen – the 133^rd edition of the event – we asked Arnold to answer some queries and pick out some highlights.

Throwers Kirsty Law and Nick Percy, and sprinter Krishawn Aiken, were very much part of our focus over the weekend and rightly so. Javelin thrower Greg Millar can now be added to that list while there’s some important context on Krishawn’s 100m success.

Here’s a few interesting stats from Aberdeen and the all-time picture . . .

*Greg Millar’s 12th gold medal in Men’s javelin makes him the fourth highest in a single individual men’s event

*Nick Percy’s ninth gold in the Men’s discus equals the best for the event – Sandy Smith, 1925-1934

*Kirsty Law’s 17th discus gold is the best for a women’s individual event and equals the best across all women’s events – Alix Jamieson/Stevenson won 17 titles across four events

Krishawn Aiken took Men’s 100m and 200m double to take his tally of golds to ten

Krishawn’s 1034w in the 100m was the fastest winning time for 25 years since Ian Mackie ran 10.30 in 2001

Harris Mackie took silver in the 200m final – dad Ian won five 100m golds and one at 200m. Ian’s record includes a memorable 100m win in 1998 in 10.00w, beating Dougie Walker by 0.01.

James Alexander won the men’s 1500m as U20 athlete just as Ben Sandilands did in 2022 and Kris Gauson in 2006

Aberdeen AAC’s Jane Davidson was first woman to win 100m/100mH in 2023 and now her young club-mate, Holly Whittaker, has done the same.

Briagha Cook won the Women’s Long Jump gold for the first time. Briagha’s mum, Rhona McLeod (well-known former BBC Scotland presenter) won four silvers in the event in the 1980s.
