Aberdeen bound! Medal moments in store at our 4J Senior/U18 Champs

The brilliant facilities at Aberdeen Sports Village will supply the perfect stage this weekend for the final championships of the 4J Outdoor Season.

Aberdeen plays host to the 133^rd edition of the Scottish Senior Champs, now backed by 4J Studios.

The 4J U18 Champs take place within the same two-day programme and there are U20 medals to be contested over 5000m as an additional championship event.

We are delighted to have no fewer than 646 athletes entered for the weekend – thanks to athletes, coaches and clubs for your support.

National Championship medals will be the goal for many while others it may be more about making the final, gathering valuable championship experience or posting a Personal Best.

At this juncture, we say a big thank you in advance to our qualified scottishathletics Officials, event volunteers and to ASV staff.

There are Commonwealth Games connections with long jump medallist, Stephen Mackenzie, set to compete as he seeks to add the Scottish title to his UK Champs gold medal and bronze at Scotstoun.

We are making plans for extensive coverage of the event across our website and social media platforms.

Here’s a taster of what we might expect . . .

*Kirsty Law set to compete in the Senior Women’s discus in farewell appearance at this level after a quite brilliant throws career

*Stephen Mackenzie, who needs 7.75m for our Prize pot (see below) could threaten his own Scottish Native Record – the 8.08m he jumped at Scotstoun

*Nick Percy has been a regular Prize pot cash winner at the 4J Scottish Senior Champs – Nick needs to throw 58.50m

*In the Para events, look out for world class Men’s 100m in Frame Running with global medallists Gavin Drysdale and Finlay Menzies head-to-head

*Home winners? Aberdeen AAC have been no strangers to Senior medals in recent years and there will be local aspirations for Hannah Cameron, Adam Brown, Briagha Cook and Holly Whittaker (to name but four).

Athletes and Para athletes are competing for a total prize fund of £3000 which will be awarded to/shared by those who achieve or exceed our prize pot standards.

Track standards can be achieved in any round and winning athletes must be eligible to compete for Scotland as per current Commonwealth Games criteria.

The overall pot is split between all athletes who make the standards (with Para standards in operation, too).

If no standards are achieved the prize pot rolls over to the Indoor Senior Champs.
