The Men’s podium at Inverness

The North District Hill Running Championships were held at the Craig Dunain hill race in Inverness.

There was a good turnout of runners on what was a new route for the race. Conditions were wet underfoot, but thankfully the rain held off during the race.

The new route was approximately 6.5km, with a total climb of 400m, and involved some choice on the line of one of the descents. Climbing and descending well was Robin Downie of Lochaber AC, who won in a time of 27.31. Silver went to Phil Vokes of Highland Hill Runners (27.38), whilst Lachlan Thomas of Ross County took the bronze medal in 28.02.

Helen Leigh of Inverness Harriers won the women’s race in a time of 35.29. Louise Mclelland (LAC) was second in 35.43 and Catriona Laing of HHR was third in 36.52.

Helen also won the female Masters race, with the male Masters gold going to Norman Ferguson (Inverness Harriers).

Our V50 ND winners were Eoin Coull (HHR) and Anne MacRae (HHR)

Out V60 ND winners were Steve Worsley (HHR) and Ruth Mackenzie (Deeside).

Inverness Harriers won the women’s team prize whilst Highland Hill Runners took the men’s team golds.

Thank you to all the volunteers, marshals and landowners who made the race possible.

With thanks to Caroline Marwick
