Our 4J Age Group Championships offer learning and opportunity equal measure.
The learning starts from the moment a young athletes steps inside the Emirates Arena and picks up their number to compete.
The opportunity is presented by taking part in a national championship event in a world class venue . . . and having the chance to chase a Personal Best, a place in a final or even a coveted podium moment.
On Saturday even some of our U16 athletes were competing for the first time while in the U20 bracket these are vital years to try and cross the bridge to Senior competition.
All of the above occurred on Saturday in the penultimate day of action in a very busy 4J Indoor Season.

As always on these occasions there were some fine performances and medal moments.
The highlight was arguably the U20 Women’s 60m final which pitched together three of our best emerging female athletes.
Kishi Aremu of Falkirk won the race in 7.46 and just three hundredths of a second separated the medallists with Holly Whitakker of Aberdeen second at 7.47 and Emma Clark of Whitemoss AAC third on 7.49. That was a Scottish U18 Record for Emma.
The outstanding performer in the U16 Champs was Pitreavie AAC athlete, Michael Massey.
Michael won a 60m sprint hurdles and 300m gold medal double with performances at 8.31 second for the hurdles and 36.71 on the circular track. Both of those are now in the process for ratification as Scottish U16 Indoor Records.

Good genes can prove helpful in athletics – see McColgan, Wightman etc – and there appears to be a second generation coming through from some previous well-known names.
Leslie Roy was on the mark with this on social media and we’re happy to repeat here (and we are aware this list might not be comprehensive): Charlotte Doyle (Lisa Whigham); Murray Robb (Bruce Robb); Archie Brown (Joanna Ross/Andy Brown); Niamh Pegrum (Carey Easton)
*Mums/dads in brackets.
