Cian and Calum Dick did so for Giffnock North AC in the Young Males race at Cumbernauld.

Heard the one about the brothers who teamed up to win gold at the Lindsays National XC Relays – but were not the only medallists in their own family?

Catriona Bark, mum to the two boys, replicated last year’s podium place with a silver medal in the Women’s Masters race an hour or so after the boys had celebrated in the same corner of the park.

Christopher Cameron was the opening leg runner for Giffnock with Cain taking it on. Even so, Caum had to come up with a superb anchor leg for the win – just as he did at the West District Relays a couple of weeks previously.

Harmeny AC thus had to be content with silver medals on an excellent day for the Edinburgh club who continue to grow apace.

Likewise Lasswade AAC, winners of the Young Females race last year, saw their boys this time take bronze in the Young Males action.

We mention Harmeny because their girls were second in the Young Females race, too.

There was a sense of history about that race as Aberdeen AAC took the golds thanks to the efforts of a young team comprised Millie Glass-Park, Emily Taylor and Rachel Fitzpatrick. Millie is U13 and her team-mates are bothU15.

The history came with an all-East top three as Gala Harriers completed the medals with bronzes. It is the first time in 18 years that the Young Females podium has featured three East clubs.

‘The girls are delighted to win and it is a good day for our club with Senior podium moments, too,’ said Aberdeen AAC coach, Nichola Crawford.

‘We’ve a good group of young teenagers there and are very conscious that it is about development at the moment. It is all about keeping it fun and helping the girls to enjoy themselves as they grow in their sport.’

Huge well done to ALL athletes who competed in the Young Females and Young Males races and to your coaches, parents and clubs.

Big thank you, of course, to our Officials for making the event happen.
