Scotland junior hill running vests on offer at Peebles

Wednesday 5th August 2026

Cademuir Hill in Peebles on Sunday 16 August will once again the venue for the trial race for teams to represent Scotland at the British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships.

In a change from previous years where 16 athletes were selected, a total of 18 young Scottish athletes will be headed for Northern Ireland’s Mountains of Mourne in September.

We will select teams of four U20 men and women (born 2007 and 2008) and five U18 men and women (born 2009, 2010 and 2011) to be named after the trial.

At the trial, the first two past the post in these categories will gain automatic selection with the balance being selected on form based on the trial and other recent results*.

To support future development, Scotland is committed to taking one athlete born in 2011 in each of the U18 men’s and women’s teams.

Entries are open now: https://www.entrycentral.com/cademuirrollercoaster

In addition to the trial races, this event is also a counter in the Scottish Athletics Junior Hill Running League which is open to all ages from U12 up to U20.

U12s and U14s will tackle the 3km route while the older age groups will run together with the seniors over the full 6km course.

The competition for the league titles in the various age categories is hotting up. Cademuir is the last race in the series for U20s and carries 10 bonus points and so is not to be missed, while the U18, U16 and U14 leagues have one more race after this at Suidhe Hill on September 19.

*Athletes unable to attend the trial, and who would like to be considered for selection, should contact angela.mudge@scottishathletics.org.uk

Please give an explanation for their absence from the trial race and details of recent race results to be taken into account by the selectors.

With thanks to Phil Mestecky
