Scottish Women and Girls in Sport 2024
It is Women and Girls in Sport week and we are delighted to share story-telling examples across athletics in Scotland.
There will be posts on our social media platforms through the week.
And we are always keen to highlight women and girls involvement with that very much a feature of our (on-going) content looking at five articles that cover six women.
So check out the stories here around Kirsty Dickson (hill running); Arlene Anderson (jogscotland); Angela McAuslan-Kelly (throws); Jane Davidson (athlete, coach, club volunteer); Barbara Knox and Chloe Emordy (volunteers, coaching, Officials)
Kirsty Dickson
Scottish athlete Kirsty Dickson combines high level hill running with a current two-year training programme in orthodontics after graduating from university.

Arlene Anderson
Jog leader Arlene Anderson took a leap of faith with a social media post when planning to set-up a jogscotland group in Galashiels.
‘I can still remember putting something on Facebook to say that if anyone was interested in coming along for a bit of a run that we were starting a group,’ recalls the Galavanters founder and jog leader.
‘The first night 12 people turned up then it absolutely snowballed from there. Word of mouth is a huge thing – and of course people see us out there.’

Angela McAuslan-Kelly
Angela McAuslan-Kelly bridged the gap between growing up in an Aberdeen housing scheme and the hallowed halls of one of America’s most prestigious educational establishments.
How the hammer thrower went from Torry to Princeton University is a story begging to be told. Angela did so with talent, determination and the kind of patience which is invaluable in athletics.

Jane Davidson
Jane Davidson simply loves athletics and a recent injury only seems to have increased her involvement! Working in key development roles with her club, Aberdeen AAC, Jane has also been officiating and coaching.

Barbara Knox and Chloe Emordy
Like all of our clubs, Springburn Harriers are fortunate to be founded on volunteer support.
Recognition in that regard came along last year for the club as Barbara Knox was named our Volunteer of the Year at the 4J Annual Awards in October and Chloe Emordy was awarded Volunteer of the Year at the Scottish Women in Sport awards.
