Emily wins Snowdon International as Women land team golds

Emily McNicol had a brilliant race at the weekend to win the Snowdon International from England’s Hannah Russell by 41 seconds – winning in 1.16.56.

In the early stages Emily and Hannah battled it out on the climb, with Emily reaching the summit in 49.26, some 14 seconds clear.

Emily had a great descent to increase the lead further and take the win. In doing so she led the Scottish women’s team to victory in the Senior Home International competition narrowly beating England by one point.

Scotland’s Holly Page, a previous winner and returning from a long-term injury raced well to place fifth, with Grace Pow following closely in sixth in her first Scotland international appearance. Catriona MacDonald and Rachel Giffen finished in 11^th and 17^th place respectively.

In the men’s race Italy had a clean sweep taking the top three individual honours.

Berti Massimiliano won in one of the fastest recent times in 64.13. Taking advantage of the near prefect conditions. There was a cloud inversion so lower down the hill it was cooler below the cloud. Higher up the mountain the runners broke through the cloud and faced hot sunny conditions.

The Scotland team raced well to take second team in the Senior Home International behind England who dominated the event.

Kieran Cooper was first Scot home in fourth pacing the race really well to come through in the latter stages. Finlay Todd climbed strongly and was third to the summit but lost places on the descent through cramp and managed to hold on for seventh.

Harris Pagett once again flew down the descent to take eighth with Caiden Thom in ninth. Great packing by the team. Robin Downie and Ewan Dowd completed the team in 12^th and 18^th respectively.

Whilst waiting for prize giving the team tuned into Josh Kerr’s World Record run in London. A very different race to the 15.5km and 994m covered in Snowdon . . .
