Eilish McColgan Back on Home Turf at The Great Scottish Run – Great Run
Eilish McColgan returns to Scotland this weekend for 10k action at the Great Scottish Run – and Callum Hawkins is back on the Glasgow roads, too.
Triple Olympian Eilish claimed no fewer than four medals this summer at the Commonwealths and Europeans in Birmingham and Munich
Road records have been falling regularly, as well, so there is sure to be plenty of excitement when she takes on the 10k in her first race in Scotland for many years.
The elite 10k starts from George Square at 9.30am with the finish in Glasgow Green. That’s followed by the elite Great Scottish Run at 10.50am which includes our Tru Wealth Scottish Half Marathon Champs – with medals up for grabs for individuals and teams.
Callum and Derek Hawkins will line up in that one with Inverclyde AC’s Adam Craig, another former winner of the National XC, likely to challenge for the podium, too. GB international Lily Partridge is favourite for the Women’s race.
Eilish won’t be the only Scottish medallist from Birmingham 2022 – Samantha Kinghorn lines up for the Wheelchair 10k after bronze at 1500m at the Commonwealths. Melanie Woods, fourth in that race, is also racing the 10k.

Eilish took down the long-standing European and UK 10km record at the Great Manchester Run with a run of 30:19.
‘It’s been a great year for me, culminating in my medals on the track, and the highlight was my Commonwealth Games victory at 10,000m roared on by the Birmingham crowd,’ said Eilish.
‘After postponing my marathon debut until next year and being involved in the Great North Run as Official Starter, I feel I have one more race left in me this season.
‘I can think of no better place to do that than to come home and take to the streets of Glasgow over 10km at the Great Scottish Run.’

Callum will toe the line in Glasgow once again after recent half marathon performances in Antrim and Copenhagen. The double Olympian, who had surgery earlier this year, is combining racing with training for a marathon before the end of 2022.
‘I’m delighted to be back at the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon this weekend,’ he said.
‘Glasgow is my home and it will be great to be back on the familiar streets once again.’
Among the elite entries are Fraser Stewart (Cambuslang), James Donald (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers), John Bell (Inverclyde) and Paralympian Derek Rae (Fife AC).
On the female side we are seeing names like Avril Mason (Shettleston Harriers), Jessica Robson (Law and District AAC), Catriona MacDonald (Bellahouston Road Runners), Gemma Rankin (Kilbarchan AAC), Nicola MacDonald (Metro Aberdeen), Shona McIntosh (Hunters Bog Trotters)), Sarah Brown (Edinburgh AC).
Paul Foster, Chief Executive of the Great Run Company said: ‘It’s an incredibly exciting prospect to have Eilish completing a stellar season with a debut performance at the Great Scottish Run.
‘I’m sure our runners will be delighted to have the opportunity to run alongside her in person.’
We cannot wait for next weekend 🔷🔶🔷😁🏃♀️🏃♂️🎽 https://t.co/nWKbVh8KsA
