Covid-19 section – updated advice around Events

scottishathletics can confirm plans are being made to stage indoor events at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow early in 2021.

Events manager Alasdhair Love and our Track and Field Commission, which is convened by Leslie Roy, are in discussions with the venue on how this may be achieved in line with Covid-19 advice from the Scottish Government and sportscotland.

Unfortunately, on-going and projected restrictions for indoor sport over the coming months mean it will not be possible to stage National championships events within the 4J Studios Indoor Season for 2021.

The limit on numbers competing together, the flow of athletes through the venue, the overall bubble sizes and other issues preclude the prospect of a large, ‘normal’ event with the seeding and rounds to be expected of a National Championship status.

Instead, we are hopeful of delivering a 4J Studios Indoor Open Series along the lines of the summer events held outdoors at Meadowmill and Aberdeen.

Detailed planning on how that will look will continue over the next few weeks before we are in a position to open entries.

Numbers will be restricted but we would certainly hope to be able to offer a number of competition opportunities from January to March at the Emirates.

As always, we fully appreciate the support of the track and field community in these difficult times.
