Falkirk-bound: Remarkable 2277 names on start-lists for Lindsays National XC

Athletes and clubs have once again delivered a huge endorsement of the Lindsays National XC in Falkirk.

We have a remarkable 2277 names on start-lists for the races at Callendar Park on Saturday 24 February.

It is a fantastic response once again and the best since the Covid pandemic caused a cancellation in 2021.

We also make the tally the fifth biggest in the history of the National XC – in the tenth season of sponsorship support from Lindsays.

‘Having moved around various venues in Scotland the Championships have had a permanent home in historic Callendar Park since 2006,’ said Mike Johnston, Convenor of our Road Running and Cross Country Commission.

‘Throughout that time due to developments and changes within the park the course has regularly changed to meet these challenges and help preserve the environment. The varied contours and surfaces including the old golf course and an area close to the Antonine Wall offers a wide variety of challenges for cross country running.

‘Due to development work on a new cycle centre a further small changes have been made this year. Our thanks as always go to Falkirk District Council and our course architects from Falkirk Victoria Harriers in setting out another challenging course for the athletes and spectacle.

‘The National XC has a long and successful history.

‘The men’s competition dates back to 1886 when it was first contested at Lanark Racecourse, while the inaugural women’s event was at Hamilton Park Racecourse in 1932.

‘This is the tenth season of support from Lindsays – and it is thus one of the longest sponsor partnerships across Scottish sport. We’re delighted clubs engage via the Lindsays Trophy which this year moved to a league format of three divisions.’
