Finlay lands bronze and Melanie adds to her medal tally

Scottish athlete Melanie Woods completed her memorable week in India with fourth place in her third final at the World Para Champs.

The wheelchair racer made the podium at global level for the first time with her T54 800m bronze medal.

Melanie followed that up with a second bronze in the 1500m and then raced in her third final in the T54 400m.

With a really strong field, the Novuna GB and NI representative finished in fourth in 53.51 seconds – after qualifying earlier in the day in New Delhi.

‘I am in good 400 shape so I wanted to do that, but I also have to respect that I have done three championship races and finals and it is not the circumstances to get the best out of you,’ said Melanie.

‘So I can’t be greedy. It is hard, sometimes you have rest days in between and that can stop the momentum, but at the same time it is good to have the rest. As I say, I don’t think I can be greedy.

‘Coming into this, having two medals, it is so funny your perspective so quickly changes to wanting more.

‘I came into this, my first international was four years ago, and I feel I have grown since then and have to remind myself there is still so much more to get out. Overall, pretty happy!

‘I am so grateful for the life that I have and be able to do the sport I love for a job. It’s funny, your perspective changes I want more. Everyone always wants more.

‘Sometimes you just have to sit back and say ‘Nay, this is pretty good‘ right now.’
