Scotland team for Loughborough International
Five young Scottish athletes have been named to represent GB and NI Juniors in the Loughborough International this weekend.
It’s another huge boost for the sport in this country with all five members of the scottishathletics National Academy with call-ups for Alisha Rees, Cameron Tindle, Jemma Reekie, Jill Cherry and Lewis Brown.
In addition, we understand that the list of reserves put on stand-by for Sunday’s event at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium by British Athletics features another three Scots.
We warmly congratulate these five athletes, families and coaches and the clubs involved in their development over recent years – as hard work and good coaching and parental guidance pays off.
British Athletics website selection announcement
Here are the five athletes selected plus their clubs and coach:
100m and 4 x 100m: Alisha Rees (Banchory Stonehaven/Edinburgh AC: Willy Russell)
200m and 4 x 100m: Cameron Tindle (TJLT/Edinburgh AC: Henry Gray/Bruce Scott)
3000m: Jemma Reekie (Kilbarchan AAC: Andy Young)
4 x 400m Relay: Jill Cherry (VP-Glasgow: Allan Scott)
4 x 400m Relay: Lewis Brown (Cumbernauld AAC: Stephen Wallace)
Rees, Tindle and Cherry have represented GB and NI at age group level previously but it is a first selection for endurance athlete Reekie, who raced for Scotland at the Great Edinburgh XC in the 4 x 1K International Relay in January, and for Cumbernauld AAC 400m specialist Brown.
All five were named last week in our Scotland selection for the Loughborough International but will now ‘move over’ to the British Athletics squad for the weekend.
Performance Director Rodger Harkins will look at replacements over the next 48 hours or so.
