Clubs: enter here for SUPERteams

One of the biggest dates in the calendar for younger athletes is fast approaching and clubs are reminded to get their entries in for the 4J Studios Indoor SUPERteams for our U12s.

Entries will close at midnight on Thursday 6 January.

And our 4J Studios Indoor SUPERteams on Sunday 23 January will give clubs the chance to qualify for another special day at the Emirates Arena – on the morning of the DNA Athletics event organised by European Athletics and featuring a Scotland team.

The top teams from January’s SUPERteams will qualify for a place in the event we are calling ‘DNA Kids’ (more information further down this story).

The 4J Indoor SUPERteams sees U12s working together in teams of four boys or four girls, completing a 60m sprint, shot put, long jump and 4 x 200m relay.

Athletes must be aged nine on the day of competition to compete and hold an up to date membership of scottishathletics.

This year, clubs can enter a maximum of one boys’ team and one girls’ team for this event. Additional teams can be requested and will be placed on a waiting list.

If there are spaces remaining after all club entries have been processed, additional places will be allocated accordingly.

These restrictions are necessary in order to fit the events into the schedule and allow as many clubs as possible to be represented on the day within the limited capacity of the venue.

Each individual team will also be asked to name one team manager who will accompany the team around all four of their events and assisting officials with those events as required.

As spectator numbers within the venue are limited (one per athlete), this is also a great way for additional parent-volunteers to watch the day’s action whilst helping out their child’s club.

Laura Muir to race for Scotland at DNA Athletics

Clubs should ensure that their SUPERteams entries are in if they would like to earn the opportunity for their athletes to participate in our special event prior to the DNA Athletics.

That match, featuring six nations,  is taking place at the Emirates Arena on Saturday 5 February (1pm to 3pm) and now scottishathletics are delivering  a short programme of events for U12s within the main arena before the international match (10am to 12 noon).

DNA Kids will offer a mixed-team multi-event competition opportunity for athletes aged 9-11. Athletes will be invited to compete in DNA Kids as well as receiving tickets to watch the afternoon’s international action.

DNA Kids athletes will complete one running event, one throwing event and one jumping event before participating in a relay.

Team points will be awarded based on each athlete’s performance in each of the three individual events, with the combined points total determining the team’s standings before the relay.

Teams will then be set off at intervals determined by their team score, similar to DNA’s handicap event ‘The Hunt’, with the team finishing in first place in the relay crowned the DNA Kids champions.

The top five girls’ teams and top five boys’ teams from SUPERteams will automatically earn two team spots each for their club in DNA Kids.

DNA Kids teams will be made up of two boys and two girls, meaning that qualifying SUPERteams may require additional athletes from their club to make up their mixed teams. Each club can qualify a maximum of two teams for DNA Kids.

Full details of the qualification process can be found on the SUPERteams fixture page.
