Scotland Men at Snowdon in 2023

Team silver as Holly wins in Wales

Scotland teams will once again compete in the hills next month at the 49th Snowdon International Race.

The race is on Sunday 20 July and athletes will compete over 15.35k with 994m of ascent and descent.

And we are pleased today to name the eight runners who will represent Scotland in Wales

Naomi Lang (Carnethy); Catriona MacDonald (Bellahouston); Ella Peters (Westerlands); Jill Stephen (Deeside)

Jacob Adkin (Moorfoot); Ewan Brown (Corstorphine); Kieran Cooper (Carnethy); Robin Downie (Lochaber)

Congratulations to all those selected and to their families, coaches and clubs. It will be a first Scotland vest appearance for Ella and Robin.

Interestingly, the steepest section of the race is on the road leading up to the mountain path.

Last year’s race was significantly shortened due to gales and heavy rainfall so the team will be hoping to race to the summit again this year.

The trail gets busier each year with tourists trekking up to the summit and means full concentration is required on the descent.

Action from the U20 Men’s race at Cornalees

The chance to scoop national titles and medals drew a record field to this year’s Cornalees Hill Race near Greenock with a total of 60 junior hill runners from 21 different clubs taking part.

And there was quality to match the quantity too, with no fewer than five course records broken during an excellent afternoon of racing.

Big thanks to the host club, Greenock Glenpark Harriers, for putting on the event and congratulations to all of the champions and medal winners listed below.

The league now moves on to the fifth round next Saturday in Melrose with the Eildon Three Hill Race and Junior Races.
