Senior Home International
Whinlatter, Lake District, 14km and 750m climb
Scottish hill runners competed on Sunday in the Senior Home International in the Lake District – and enjoyed significant success.
The SHI race this year also incorporated the UKA mountain running trial for the up-and-down race for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Canfranc in September.
Conditions were hot and sunny in the Lake District and the course was a very fast race on a mix of forest fire roads and single-track trails over two laps.
It was a close race in the men’s, with the outcome in doubt right down to the finish line.
Scotland men raced superbly well to take the team title, with Moray Pryde winning the race and Jacob Adkin finishing second – just one second behind.
This was backed up by Andy Douglas who took fourth place not far behind. Ross Gollan finished ninth, Angus Wright 24th and Harris Paget 27th.
With the strong performances and close packing from the team, Scotland men team took team golds.
In the women’s race, Scotland women took team silver. Catriona MacDonald was first Scot home in seventh, Holly Page eighth, Helen Leigh 14th, and Emily McNicol 15th. Georgia Ledingham finished 22nd and Louisa Brown 23rd.
The race was one by Edinburgh AC athlete, Nancy Scott.
The Junior trials were held just after the SHI, taking in a single loop of the Senior course.
There was a strong representation from Scottish Junior athletes – one third of the field being Scottish athletes, and there were some excellent performances.
Thomas Hilton (Moorfoot) and Isla Paterson (Gala) both continued their strong form and took victory in the junior men’s and junior women’s races, respectively.
Hania Czebreszuk (Aberdeen AAC) was third in the junior women’s and Rowan Taylor (Lasswade Athletics Club) was fourth in the junior men’s.
