Shettleston and Central AC will head for Spain; Glasgow win in Berlin

Sunday 27th November 2022

Two Scottish clubs will compete in cross country in Europe early next year!

The Euro Clubs Cross Country Champs, organised by European Athletics, will take place in Orepreso del Mar in Spain on Sunday 5 February.

And both Shettleston Harriers women and Central AC men will be there following good performances at the trials in Liverpool.

The Senior races at the British Cross Challenge event featured Scottish, English and Welsh representatives and we have now had confirmation from British Athletics that both Shettleston and Central will be put forward to compete in Spain.

Shettleston were competing for the first time in the trial and the team put together by Avril Mason were successful.  Wearing the well-known blue and yellow vests on Saturday were Avril, Aoife Carr, Hannah Terrence, Ruth Joss and Emma Baird.

In the Men’s event, it is understood there will be two British representatives this time with Central joined by Leeds.

Racing for Central on Saturday were Tom Graham-Marr, Hamish Hickey, Ben MacMillan, Calum Phillip, Cameron Milne and Luca Fanottoli.

Huge congratulations to both clubs on this success – a great credit to club depth and willingness to get out there and race in Liverpool.

The young Scots in Berlin (photo via Twitter)

There was great news on the continent this weekend as a team of young athletes from Glasgow won the inaugural European City Challenge event in Berlin.

It was an indoor track and field event and featured athletes in the U18 age group..

Huge well done to all the athletes and coaches in Berlin as well as those organising the trip (led by Jill O’Neil and Jim Goldie).

And there’s further good news – this event is coming to Glasgow next year with the Emirates Arena the venue.
