Sunday 18th August 2024

Report by Angela Mudge

The senior scottishathletics Hill Running Championships were hosted by Insch Trail Running Club on Saturday 17 August at Tap O Noth in Rynie.

The race is part of the Rynie Gala, starting from the Gala field runners climb to the Pictish hill fort across fields and through heather, descending the same way.

Jamie Crowe (Central AC) and Andy Douglas (Westerlands) led from the start, with Andy following Jamie every step of the way.

Jamie opened up a gap in the final run into the finish. In the women’s race Emily Shaw (EUHH) led to the summit and was overtaken by Jill Stephen on the descent but managed to nip ahead on the fields into the finish.

In the team events there were clear wins for Desside Runners (ladies) and Shettleston Harriers (men).

There was a tie for second and Carnethy won from Central with their third-placed runner coming home first.

New course records were set in both the men’s and the women’s event.

Thanks to ITRC for hosting the event and all the marshals out on the hill. There are plenty photos on the Insch Trail Running Club public facebook page
