Scottish Indoor Championship titles and podium places up for grabs. Scotland vests for the DNA Athletics as an incentive. The chance to set a PB or SB.

All of the above will be on the line as the 4J Senior and U17 Champs at the Emirates Arena on Saturday make a welcome return centre stage after a two-year absence.

It simply wasn’t possible to stage national indoor events 12 months ago because of Covid restrictions.

A number of issues remain of course and, as many members will be very much aware, existing restraints are not being lifted for indoor events until Monday.

That means a restricted number of spectators on Saturday and the absence of certain non-laned races. We’re really sorry those are not able to happen, under the guidelines imposed by Scottish Government and sportscotland and applicable to January 24.

Nonetheless, all the planning and politics can be left at the door come Saturday – with medals to be won.

Timetable and key information for Saturday

The U17 Champs, happily, are unaffected in a competitive sense (although unfortunately some spectators may not be able to attend as wished).

And there should be some excellent indoor athletics action taking place with the likes of the following to be involved: Zoey Clark, Allan Hamilton, Greg Kelly, Alessandro Schenini, Sarah Warnock, Reuben Nairne, David Smith, Murray Fotheringham, Craig Charlton, Angus McInroy, Teddy Tchoudja, Jenna Wrisberg, Heather Paton and Holly McArthur.

That’s just some of the key Scots and there are visiting athletes from England who look strong medal contenders, like Olympian Emily Borthwick in the Women’s High Jump.

Scotland selections for the DNA Athletics event – back at the Emirates on Saturday 5 February – will also be part of the story,

In that regard, we have been able to schedule a series of track races as ‘invitational events’ in order to help in the selection process. This is via sportscotland exemptions for ‘elite’ athletes.

A new, final timetable for the Seniors and U17s is now online on the Event section.

*Everyone attending this Saturday is asked to take a Lateral Flow Test on Friday or early on Saturday. Please do not attend in event of a positive test – as we seek to minimise risks.

*If you are not on the list as registered to attend, please do not come along to the Emirates on Saturday. Apologies, but the overall spectator limit is 200 and is fully subscribed.

Thanks for your support and patience as we seek to deliver the 4J Indoor Season with a big team effort from staff, volunteers, the Track and Field Commission and of course our scottishathletics qualified Officials.
