Women win Home Countries XC in London – and gold for Jamie, too

Scotland athletes delivered strong performances despite Parliament Hill lived up to its reputation of hosting a challenging cross country course.

In contrast to the previous week’s Cross Challenge event in Renfrew, the London course was rough underfoot and the hilly laps climbed the lower slopes of the hill providing some tough racing in very chilly conditions.

In the Senior Men’s race, Jamie Crowe was with the lead group until the final stages and raced well to take the Home Countries International title and finish fourth overall.

Jamie led the Scottish team to team silver with Angus McMillan and Scott Stirling having strong runs to back him up over the five lap course.

In the Senior Women’s 10km event Scotland took team gold with Scout Adkin demonstrating her hill strength by finishing third in the Home International with Holly Page and Kirsty Walker following closely.

Alice Goodall guaranteed selection for the World Students Cross Country Championships by finished second student in an automatic qualifying position.

Natasha Phillips just missed out on individual honours in the U20 ladies race by finishing fourth. England dominated the race finishing in the top three. Millie McClellend-Brooks finished fifth with Jess Inglis completing the team to take team silver.

Late withdrawals left only Logan Beagley and Connor Bell in the U20 race. The lead group ran together until the final lap when the two English runners pulled away. Logan had a great run to finish third and take individual bronze.

In the open races Kilbarchan’s Zara Redmond had an excellent run to take individual gold by nine seconds in the U17 event over 6km.
