Scotland will contest the Manchester International on Wednesday evening – with selections now confirmed following the Scottish Senior Champs at Grangemouth.

No fewer than 25 athletes will be given the chance to compete at Sport City stadium in an event which features teams from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, GB Juniors and an Armed Forces select.

There was good news on Monday as it emerged that Whitemoss AAC athlete, Holly McArthur, will land her first GB and NI vest in the 400m Hurdles. McArthur has been called up to add to four Scots already selected – Alisha Rees, Erin Wallace, Jill Cherry and Jenna Wrisberg.

A number of Scottish champions from the weekend have been selected by Director of Coaching, Rodger Harkins, for Manchester – including the likes of Mhairi Hendry, Heather Paton, Avril Jackson and Nikki Manson on the Women’s side and Grant Plenderleith, Greg Louden, Nick Percy and Andy Frost on the Men’s.

With a couple of non-Scots winning events at Grangemouth, there are picks for some of the silver medallists from the Senior Champs such as Taylor Nimmo, Rachel Hunter and Ben Greenwood.

All at scottishathletics firmly congratulates these athletes on their selections and their coaches and families, too. Credit also to the clubs involved over a number of years helping to deveop these athletes.

It is worth stressing that the Manchester International this year is effectively a pilot event – which we are keen to support under the auspices of increased international opportunities for Scottish athletes at a certain level.
