Scotland selection for Manchester International 2019

Scotland head for the Manchester International next week and another track and field opportunity for some of our best athletes.

And scottishathletics are now pleased to confirm a number of coaches who will join us to help guide the team at the Regional Arena in Manchester next Wednesday.

Allan Scott and Julie Mollison of scottishathletics will lead the Scotland delegation for the Manchester International, with the team staying overnight on Tuesday in order to help offer athletes the best chance to prepare to compete.

Event group coaches have been recruited as follows:

Throws – Alison Grey

Endurance – Janice Hendrie and Steve Doig

Sprints, Hurdles and Relays – Allan Scott and Chris Baillie

Jump – Colin Sinclair and Linda Nicholson

Team physio – Chris Jerrett

Well done to the coaches involved on being invited to join Scotland on international duty and thanks in advance for committing to the event.

Scotland will compete against England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ulster, GB and NI Juniors and a British League team at the Manchester International.

scottishathletics places a big emphasis on coach education as a key strand in our strategy to grow the sport in Scotland and raise standards.

That goal has been highlighted in recent weeks in a couple of videos from Stephen Maguire, our Director of Performance and Coaching, and a blog post from chief executive, Mark Munro.

So now we’re delighted to confirm we’ve added Coach Education Course dates and venues throughout the country for everyone looking to attend a course this autumn.

From entry level qualifications on track with the Coaching Assistant course and off track with our Jog Leader course to the Event Group Coach qualification, we feel we have course opportunities for volunteers and coaches to develop their coaching skills and knowledge.

Just looking through the schedule and in the opening weeks there are courses coming up at Motherwell, Tranent, Grangemouth, Inverness, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Dundee and East Kilbride.

scottishathletics feels strongly our Coach Education programme is essential to support the development of athletes of all ages and abilities in our clubs and communities.

With thanks to Alison Grey
