Scotland Women’s win at Armagh

Scotland made a welcome return to the Armagh International Road Race back in February 2016 – as scottishathletics and the Road Running and Cross Country Commission created another international opportunity in road racing.

The Irish event has developed a growing reputation in recent years and is now acknowledged as one of the best such races in the British Isles.

Distances are over 5K for Men and 3K for Women and the 27th edition of the event takes place in Armagh on Thursday 16 February 2017.

Scotland’s involvement has come about following discussions with the race organisers and we are grateful for the assistance on this from Brian Vallely and Armagh International Road Race.

And we’re delighted to confirm that Scotland plans to send teams of four men and four women to the event as an international competition opportunity. This follows from the success in 2016, when our women won the team event. There may be an opportunity within those teams of four for one place in each for an U23 athlete, fitting with recent precedent.

Performance Manager, Mark Pollard, is now therefore looking for expressions of interest from Men and Women keen to be considered for selection for Armag

The Scottish 3000m Champs on Wednesday 4 January at the Emirates Arena offer a good chance to show form ahead of the selection decisions – particularly for the women given it is over the same distance.

Please email expressions of interest to mark.pollard@scottishathletics.org.uk by January 3. Selections will be made after the 3000m Indoor Champs.
