New equality and diversity advisors

scottishathletics are delighted to welcome four new members to the scottishathletics Equality and Diversity Advisory Group – following a recruitment process.

The group consists of seven members from a variety of backgrounds, experience and perspectives, who are passionate about equality and committed to pursuing it within athletics.

Their remit is to provide advice and guidance on all equality matters to the organisation as a whole, and particularly to our equality working group and board members.

The new members are:

Karen Wallace – Inclusion and diversity manager at SCRA (Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration) with extensive experience of inclusive working practices and legal compliance

Graeme Stewart – Club Development Officer at Harmeny AC, experience of equality law and working with organisations such as SCORE (Strengthening Communities for Race Equality) Scotland.

Zaffir Hakim –  Former development officer for STUC (Scottish Trades Union Congress)’s One Workplace Equal Rights Project with experience in both mental health and race discrimination.

Alasdair Donaldson – Experienced leader in the sports profession, now Paralympic talent and development manager with British Triathlon

They join existing group members Noanie Heffron, Xabier Cid and John Owens.

Equalities officer Fran Snitjer said:  ‘We’re delighted to be able to increase the pool of expertise on our Equality and Diversity Advisory Group.

‘Karen, Graeme, Zaffir and Alasdair each bring a huge wealth of relevant experience to their new roles, and their appointment can only strengthen our ongoing work to ensure athletics is open to all.’
