There was Scottish success once again at global level at the World Mountain and Trail Champs on Friday.

A dozen Scots are with the GB and NI team in Canfranc in the Spanish Pyrenees.

And Naomi Lang landed a superb third place and bronze medal in the Short Trail event as she finished behind Swedish and Spanish rivals.

It was another awesome, world class performance from Naomi over the 45k Short Trail race – in an excellent 2025.

Well done to Naomi, coach Lewis Walker and Carnethy HRC (and previously Edinburgh Uni Hares and Hounds and Aberdeen AAC).

‘I am kind of lost for words and can’t believe it,’ smiled Naomi.

‘I guess it was something at the back of my mind that I felt might be possible. But I didn’t think I would be able to pull off third place and the bronze medal!

‘Don’t think my legs have hurt so much for so long but it was worth it as you run through the finish line.’

Unfortunately, Joe Wright had a tough day to finish 91st but nonetheless gained valuable experience for future championships.

Adkin fifth at World Mountain Champs (British Athletics website)

The previous day has seen our hill runners competing in the Uphill Only race.

Jacob Adkin had a fine run to finish in fifth place and only 14 seconds adrift of the podium places.

Kirsty Dickson was the best-placed Brit in the Women’s Uphill race as she took 12th place. Scout Adkin, who has been recovering from an ankle injury, placed 15th on Thursday.

Matt Knowles, of Edinburgh Uni, was 24th with the GB and Ni men taking seventh place, as did the women.

With thanks to Angela Mudge and Adrian Stott in Canfranc.
