Scotland will send young athletes to the London Mini Marathon event next month.

And we are delighted today to confirm selections in the U17 and U15 age categories and a couple of Para athletes.

The London Mini Marathon now takes place on the day before the main event with youngsters thus competing on Saturday 26 April.

Selections were based on the recent Young Athletes Road Races with the top four at East Fortune given automatic places. Two further picks were at the discretion of our panel of selectors.

In the Para categories, there has been a new T20 race introduced to add to the wheelchair races and this has helped us selected two Scottish Para athletes for the first time in this event in a number of years.

This means no fewer than 26 athletes will represent Scotland with teams of six selected in the U17 and U15 age groups.

T20: Mairi Gatherer (Perth Strathtay Harriers)

T54 Wheelchair: Niamh Currie (Disability Sport Fife)

U17 Women:

Nancy Corrie (Harmeny AC); Eilidh Dallas (Strathearn Harriers); Millie Gairn (Airdrie Harriers); Ava Richardson (Gala Harriers); Abbie Stewart (Stornoway RAC); Jessica Taylor (Edinburgh AC)

Many congratulations to all those now headed for London and to their families, coaches and support teams. We also note and acknowledge the work by our clubs in developing these young athletes over a number of years.
