World Road Running Champs: Megan 15th but Sarah is disappointed

Saturday 19th September 2026

Megan Keith and Sarah Calvert savoured the World Road Running Championships experience in Denmark on Saturday.

It was a first ever Senior vest appearance for Sarah as she took on the mile effectively at the end of her track season.

Megan for her part had recently taken a short break post Commonwealths and Europeans and saw Copenhagen more as a start to her winter season.

The Glasgow 2026 5000m bronze medallist clocked 15:19 in the Women’s 5k and finished in fifth place.

‘My gameplan went out the window when I accidentally found myself at the front,’ said Megan, after she led in the first couple of minutes.

‘It didn’t seem like anyone was keen and then all of a sudden they switched on and it was a shock to the system and tried to hold it down the best I could.

‘After that it was just hanging on and then the home straight felt like it was lasting forever. The atmosphere was incredible and was such a fun one to race in.’

GB team-mate Hannah Nuttall finished in 10th with 15:08.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Sarah was disappointed with her 4:48.98 run for 27th place.

‘I’m very disappointed, I did not feel myself out there,’ she said.

‘I’ve had a bit of a tough past month or so, but I am so happy to just be here, trying to embrace it all, and take in all the atmosphere. This is my first GB senior vest, so I’m happy to be here, but I wanted a lot more, and hopefully now I can reset and get stronger for next year.

On her debut, Sarah said: ‘I mean, what better place to have it than Copenhagen. It was so cool to see my friend, Anne Marie, get fourth, she had the race of her life I’m like, probably because of the Danish crowd.’
